Thai Tea Blend Black Tea from Teavana

Thai Tea Blend Black Tea from TeavanaI have loved Thai iced tea that they serve in Thai restaurants for a long time; in fact I will sometimes visit a Thai restaurant just to get some iced tea.  I have purchased loose leaf Thai tea from Asian food markets in the past, but for whatever reason, the tea I brewed at home never tasted the same as the delightful, creamy, layered beverage from the restaurant.

Nevertheless, this didn’t stop me from buying some of this blend during my last visit to Teavana.  I had to give it try!

As a hot tea, this is a very tasty blend.  The robust Black Tea is given a smooth touch with the addition of the coconut and vanilla, which is very subtle amid the strength of the tea.  The almonds offer a slight nutty quality to the blend, and the Rooibos adds a little sweetness and an interesting dimension to the flavor.

However, where this tea really shines is as an iced tea!  I brew it full strength, sweeten it with agave nectar, and then I allow it to come to room temperature before putting it in the refrigerator.  Once it is nice and cold, it’s time to enjoy!

It’s quite good on its own, without any further addition, but, if you really want a treat, add a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk to it, give it a stir, and see if that doesn’t rival the tea from the Thai restaurant.

Teavana describes this tea as

A delightful Thai restaurant blend of black and red teas, Hawaiian coconut pieces, almonds, and authentic Madagascar vanilla beans. Enjoy this delicious tea chilled with milk and Rock Cane Sugar. This tea contains nuts.

Personally, I think I like this tea better than the tea from the Thai restaurant; the coconut, almond and vanilla add a great deal of interest to the flavor of this tea, making it a delicious tea to serve with or without the sweetened condensed milk… but I must admit that after trying it with the addition of sweetened condensed milk, I can’t imagine drinking this tea without it.  If you like Thai iced tea, this tea should be a must try on your list – it’s amazingly good!
