Walnut Fudge Brownie from 52Teas

Walnut Fudge Brownie from 52TeasAt the time of writing this review, this is the latest creation released by 52Teas.  I simply couldn’t resist it.  My mouth started watering the moment I read the name of the tea – Walnut Fudge Brownie!

There is something about the word “Brownie” that makes the chocoholic in me jump for joy.  Somehow, I think that the other chocoholics out there can understand that!

The dry leaf smells incredible.  It smells like BROWNIES!  Of course, I did expect that, so I’m not surprised… rather, I’m very pleased that it lived up to my expectations!  The dry leaf looks almost as good as it smells too – there are pieces of walnut, cacao nibs and big chocolate chips tossed in with the Black Tea leaves.  YUMMY!

The black tea base is incredibly smooth and rich.  It does have some astringency to it, and sadly, I feel like this astringency detracts just a bit from the fudge-like factor – because it isn’t as creamy and thick as I might have envisioned with a tea called “brownie.”   I think that this blend would be improved vastly with a bit of Assam in the blend – this would lend a sort of baked quality to the overall cup and give it a more substantial texture… that being said, this is still a very pleasant tasting tea base.

The chocolate flavor is sweet and rich.  I can taste the “fudge-y” like taste to this and it’s delightful and decadent.  The walnut flavor offers a nutty taste to it and enhances the fudge flavor.   As a chocoholic I would probably suggest a bit more chocolate.  However, as a tea enthusiast, I will say that there is a good balance of flavors – I can taste the chocolate fudge, I can taste the walnut, and I can taste the black tea.

52Teas describes this blend as

I had a little bit of a sweet tooth, so I decided it was time to bring the chocolate. Here it is, our premium Indian black teas blended with organic cacao nibs AND milk chocolate chips, walnuts and natural flavors. Yes, it is as delicious as it sounds.

Overall, I’m very impressed with this tea.  It has a rich, chocolate and nut flavor… it deliciously decadent!   I’ve also noticed that as I get to the bottom half of the cup with this tea, the flavor develops significantly.  I don’t know if this is because the tea has cooled a bit or because the palate has become more in tune with the flavors of the cup.  But it doesn’t really matter – because what it all boils down to is that this is one incredibly delicious cup of tea!
